Zap Energy confirms $130M round, shares progress on its demo power plant system

Zap Energy, a fusion company based in Everett, Washington, announced progress on its power plant demo system and raised $130 million in a Series D round led by Soros Fund Management. The company is working on commercializing fusion energy with its FuZE-Q reactor and Century system, which tests key power-producing components. While FuZE-Q focuses on achieving fusion, Century helps refine other crucial technologies. Investors in this round include prominent firms like Mizuho and Plynth Energy, supporting Zap's goal of scaling internationally and eventually delivering a commercial fusion power plant.

Tesla unveils its 'Cybercab' robotaxi

At Tesla's "We, Robot" event in California, Elon Musk unveiled the Cybercab, a robotaxi with no steering wheels or pedals, designed to be fully autonomous. Musk highlighted that the Cybercab, expected to go into production before 2027, could significantly reduce transportation costs, estimating fares as low as 20 cents per mile. Priced below $30,000, the Cybercab aims to revolutionize ridesharing, allowing owners to manage fleets of robotaxis. The vehicle uses AI and vision technology, avoiding costly sensors. Musk also introduced the Robovan, capable of carrying up to 20 people, and showcased Tesla's humanoid Optimus robots, which are envisioned to handle various tasks and be sold for $20,000 to $30,000.
